Elbow Injuries

Elbow Injuries

There are two common forms of elbow injuries that can be addressed.  If you suffer from tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow, our Class IV laser can give you the powerful healing you need.

The Causes of Tennis Elbow

A sport that stresses the tendon in your elbow can cause swelling, which is referred to as lateral epicondylitis or tennis elbow. Commonly, tennis players suffer from this condition due to the swinging and gripping motion with a racket. It can also happen due to intense, unexpected forces. A repetitive motion causes tendon to degenerate, resulting in pain and inflammation in the forearm muscle and the elbow. The connective tissue, muscles and tendons attached to the bone become inflamed.

If you swing a hammer or tools that engage your forearm, lift weights, pain or play racquetball, you may also develop tennis elbow.

The Symptoms of Tennis Elbow

People with tennis elbow can experience symptoms such as burning, tenderness or pain on the outside area of the elbow. It is likely sensitive to touch. Continuing with your activity while symptoms occur will cause the pain to travel into the hand, causing them to shake or to lose their grip strength.

The Causes of Golfer’s Elbow

Epicondylitis, or golfer’s elbow, is when you have pain on the inside portion of the lower arm next to your elbow. Most commonly, it’s caused by a golf swing. Any sport that uses the wrists repeatedly can result in this condition. The muscles attaching to the inside of the elbow are overused, which causes small tears to develop and irritating the bone.

The Symptoms of Golfer’s Elbow

If you have golfer’s elbow, the pain in the inner part of the elbow may radiate to the inner side of your forearm. The hands and wrists may feel weak and stiff like you can’t make a fist. Your pain can begin slowly or suddenly. Numbness can also occur.

How Class IV Laser Therapy Helps

Our Class IV laser has three separate, powerful effects: the reduction of inflammation and pain and the acceleration of your healing. The body’s neuronal impulses will be decreased while endorphins are released, which cuts down on pain levels. Inflammation is diminished due to fewer inflammatory factors and the dilating lymphatics that lead to the relief of edema. Your healing is enhanced by greater blood circulation, the stimulation of collagen production and fibroblast activity, and the release of cytokines.
