Knee Pain

Knee Pain

The knee is one of the most common areas that we treat with Laser therapy. Although there are many reasons why your knees are hurting, Laser therapy can be an effective tool to manage both acute and chronic pain and inflammation. Of course, each patient is examined to determine the best course of action for managing your knee pain.

Are you experiencing problems with your knee? This joint is made up of several different structures.  Our Class IV laser can address knee meniscal injuries.

Each of your knees has two menisci. One meniscus is at the outer edge of your knee and the other at the inner. Each is responsible for cushioning the shinbone to the thighbone, keeping you steady by balancing your weight over the knee. If the meniscus is torn, the knee can’t work properly. Older people who have a tear in the meniscus likely have degeneration. The cartilage in the knee thins and weakens with age, making it easier to tear. A meniscus tear is a common form of knee injury.

What Causes Knee Meniscal Injuries?

Athletes who play contact sports, are at risk for meniscus tears. However, you don’t have to be an athlete to get a meniscus tear. The meniscus can be torn from activities with direct contact. Pressure from a twist, forced rotation, lifting heavy items, or getting up too quickly from a squatting position may all lead to a meniscus tear. Sports that contribute to having this injury are football, basketball, soccer or tennis.

Symptoms of Knee Meniscal Injury

If you suspect that you may have injured your meniscus, there are some common signs that you should watch for:

  • Difficulty fully bending or straightening your knee
  • Difficulty in moving your knee
  • Knee cannot support your body
  • Knee giving way
  • Knee locking
  • Pain
  • Popping sounds or a popping sensation in your knee
  • Swelling or stiffness

How Our Laser Helps You

If you have a knee meniscal injury, our Class IV laser provides a range of benefits. It reduces pain and inflammation while accelerating your body’s healing power. Your pain levels are reduced due to diminished neuronal impulses and the boosted release of endorphins. Inflammation is cut down by fewer inflammatory factors and dilating lymphatics, which lessens edema. Your healing is enhanced thanks to greater blood flow, the release of cytokines and the stimulation of collagen production and fibroblast activity.
